How Health Coaching Can Solve Your Behavior Change Dilemmas

At some point you realize you need to make a change or two to your lifestyle. It could be influenced by a new health diagnosis or just a desire to want to feel better than you are right now. It could also be due to a change in your life situation–a new job in a new city, getting married, having kids, taking care of your parents. The list goes on.

Regardless of the need or desire to make a change, there are common obstacles that you may come across that can hinder your efforts. These could include:

  • A Need for Knowledge – You may not know what changes you need to make to meet your goals or you might struggle with sorting through too much knowledge to figure out where to start.
  • Lack of Motivation – You may know what you need to do and you might even have a plan, but you are struggling with getting started. You may start but find your efforts wane as time goes by.
  • Time for Self – You may find it difficult to make or find the time required to start a new habit.
  • Fear of Failure – You may fail to start or give up early because you’re afraid to fail and struggle with perfectionism.

Any single one of these obstacles can prevent you from becoming the person you want to be. It can be even more difficult if you are battling multiple obstacles at once. At times, it can seem near impossible to move forward. I’m here to tell you about one thing you can do to gain the skills necessary to overcome these obstacles–work with a health coach. Of course, you would expect me to say that, I am a health coach after all. Give me a few more moments of your time to elaborate on this idea.

First, for those of you who may not be familiar with what a health coach is, allow me to explain. We are a fairly new profession that aims to help people, like yourself, take their desires for better health and turn them into reality. To do this, we’ve been trained to understand concepts like behavior change theory and positive psychology.

To put it more simply, we have an understanding of how small changes to your lifestyle can create large impacts on your overall health and well-being.

If you look back at those obstacles mentioned earlier you may begin to understand how a health coach can be beneficial to you. We can help you sort through the vast amounts of knowledge available to know what is most relevant to your situation and co-create a plan for where to start making changes. We can also help you take the information you already know and find the best way to apply it into your already busy schedule in a fun and inspiring way.

Being able to look at your situation from a new perspective can help you realize that any past “failures” you may have had were all learning experiences. A health coach can help you see these as opportunities that have provided you with the knowledge necessary to take the next step towards a brighter future.

What about that last obstacle? Finding time for ourselves can be challenging when we have so many commitments. Our spouse, kids, family, friends, work, and so much more make it a challenge to find time for self care. How can a health coach help with that? The simplest answer is each session you have with a health coach is self care. The bonus is you will also gain the skills necessary to create these pockets of time for yourself long after you have graduated from health coaching.
