What is Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive Eating is not a diet. It's an approach to health and wellness that breaks the cycle of chronic dieting and helps people create a new and healthy relationship with food.

Food is a necessary part of living a healthy and fulfilling life. We are born intuitively knowing when and what to eat. Over time we tend to succumb to society's expectations of how we "should" look and what foods are "good" or "bad". We learn that eating particular foods, or eating at certain times will endanger this delicate balance of perfection we strive to achieve.

Because of this, we become disconnected from our body's hunger and satiety cues. We no longer trust the signals coming from our body that it needs nourishment, or that it is fully satisfied.

Intuitive Eating was created more than 25 years ago by two registered dietitians, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. The program contains 10 principles, designed to help you navigate how to begin listening to your body, to honor your hunger and to reject the diet mentality and the food police.
