My name is Vanessa, and I am 30 years old.
I’d like to tell you my story.
When I was 16 I contracted a virus that made me exhausted and caused me to sleep all the time. When I finally conquered the virus, a multitude of other symptoms started presenting themselves, and the constant fatigue didn’t go away.
Through a multitude of tests it was determined that I had a large number of food allergies, but this didn’t explain my other symptoms that included ongoing fatigue and exhaustion.
It wasn’t until 2017 that I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease which is an autoimmune disorder that affects the performance of my thyroid. In addition I learned I had polycystic ovarian syndrome and hormone imbalances. Even with this information, doctors still were unable to provide me any real improvement to my health. My symptoms continued: the exhaustion, inflammation, the brain fog.
I always felt tired, unable to do very much activity or work. Exercise was tough — anything that wasn’t basic survival was almost impossible. I would have to choose between working out or doing something else because I physically couldn’t do both.
I really wanted to apply to graduate school but did not feel I would be able to handle the workload and the stress with my health problems. I had seen many doctors over the past few years for various medical concerns, but I wasn’t seeing improvement and I wasn’t feeling better.
I was struggling with fatigue, trouble focusing, brain fog and inflammation. I also had a lot of food allergies and other medical concerns. It was a lot to deal with and no doctor had answers for me, even though I saw a lot of them.
I was frustrated that I couldn’t find an answer to my ailments and tired of feeling unwell all the time.
I did not have high expectations when I started at Empowered Health because no other doctor had provided me with any real answers or solutions.
But today I am so glad I am part of Empowered Health. Working with Dr. Schneider I finally feel like I am on the path to improved health. She was able to identify some of the root causes of my health concerns and has provided me with a path forward.
EMPOWERED HEALTH + IMPROVEMENTS
When I came to Empowered Health in 2018, I was feeling so discouraged but I did not want to give up on my dreams to attend grad school. I didn’t want to go on feeling so tired and unwell all the time. I knew there had to be a solution.
Dr. Schneider is patient and really listens; she spent a lot of time listening to my medical history and learning about my symptoms. She ran a multitude of tests and found things no other doctor had found before (or even really looked for). When the results came back, we sat down and talked through everything. She explained her suggestions for moving forward and making changes so I could start feeling better.
With the changes Dr. Schneider and I implemented together, I finally feel better and can honestly say that my health has improved greatly. My thryroid is functioning normally which has helped me feel better and given me back my energy.
My work and life balance is better, I can now handle doing more than one thing in a day.
I am able to exercise regularly, and I am better able to manage stress now that I physically feel better.
The best part is that I finally felt well enough to apply for grad school. Before I started at Empowered Health, I didn’t think I could do it. Now I am enrolled in a Library Sciences Masters program and feeling so excited for the future.
I RECOMMEND EMPOWERED HEALTH
Needless to say, I highly recommend Dr. Schneider and Empowered Health. I truly believe Dr. Schneider and her team are invested in my health and my long-term success.
It’s more motivating to want to take care of yourself and get better when you are so well supported, and that is how I feel being part of Empowered Health.
Dr. Schneider is extremely patient and always takes time to answer questions and provide helpful feedback. It’s clear her team cares a great deal about each patient; I feel so supported and well cared for.
I know that health is a long-term journey, and I still need support and guidance from Dr. Schneider. But it’s so much easier when you aren’t on the journey alone.
